Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan and Senator Chris Van Hollen will deliver remarks at our Domestic Violence Homicide Memorial Service on Monday, February 11, 2019 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm in the Joint Hearing Room of the Legislative Services Building in Annapolis.
The Memorial Service will remember the women, men, and children who died as a result of domestic violence during the past year, celebrate the survivors, and focus attention on changing laws to reduce domestic violence, improve victim safety, and provide greater accountability for abusive partners. The Memorial Service heightens awareness of domestic violence and reminds the community of the terrible toll that domestic violence takes each year on families in Maryland, but it also focuses on positive actions that can prevent future tragedies.
In addition to remarks by First Lady Hogan and Senator Van Hollen, the event will include a survivor talking about on the long-lasting effects of an abusive relationship on her life, and the importance of domestic violence services in Maryland. The names of the individuals who died as a result of domestic violence between July 2017 and June 2018 will be read.
Close to 150 expected attendees include loved ones of the victims who were killed, domestic violence advocates, faith leaders, legislators, and community members.
