The National Network to End Domestic Violence reported that over 50% of women and 40% of men interviewed as adults shared that their first violent experience in an intimate partner relationship occurred during their teen years. While many programs openly serve identified victims of teen dating violence, as one in three adolescents in the U.S. is a victim of physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal abuse from a dating partner, very few are implementing strategies within the classroom to prevent youth from entering into unhealthy relationships. Our program is designed to engage students in transparent discussion about dating relationships using the school and/or community group setting. It is our intent to reach students as early as possible in a comfortable and familiar setting to map out what they want in their relationships, what behaviors they believe are healthy versus unhealthy, and how to plan on helping a friend who may not be in a healthy relationship.
